Davis is UW’s first signee of the 2008 spring signing period...
Laramie, Wyo. --
University of
Wyoming
basketball coach Heath Schroyer announced on Monday that
A.J. Davis
has signed a national letter of intent with the Wyoming basketball program and will enroll at UW in the Fall of 2008.
“I am really excited about adding A.J. Davis to the program,” said Schroyer. “He is a quality young man, a quality student and a great basketball player. He is a legitimate 6’5” player who is athletic, can put the ball on the floor, can get to the rim and can shoot the ball. He is my kind of player, and I am excited about adding A.J. to the Wyoming basketball family.”
A 195-pound guard from Columbus, Ohio, Davis attended Linden-McKinley high school before spending the 2007-08 academic year at Harmony Community School in Cincinnati. He received First Team All-City and All-District honors as a senior in 2006-07 after averaging 21.0 points, nine rebounds and six assists. As a junior, Davis put up 16.7 points a game and earned Honorable Mention All-District honors. During his sophomore season, he helped lead Linden-McKinley to the Ohio Division II state semifinals while averaging 11 points a game. He was ranked as the No. 2 wing and the No. 8 overall player in the state of Ohio by PrepSpotlight.com coming out of high school.
This past season at Harmony Prep, Davis averaged 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists on the hardwood.
He was also recruited by
Toledo
,
Akron
,
Virginia Tech
and
South Florida
.
Davis joins
Mahamoud Diakite
as the first two signees of the 2008-09 class. Diakite signed with the Cowboys during the early signing period in November.
