Cowgirls Fall to Lady Frogs

Just when the Cowgirls appeared to be finding their range, their shooting woes returned—and in a costly way…
Wyoming
went just 20-of-58 (34.5 percent) from the field, including a dismal 26 percent from 3-point range (5-19), en route to a 73-59 loss to
TCU
Wednesday night.
The performance came just four days after the Cowgirls made 12 3-pointers and shot 42 percent from the field in a 70-55 home victory over
New Mexico
. But it was also less than two weeks removed from a 56-42 loss to Brigham Young that saw Wyoming shoot a dismal 14.8 percent from beyond the arc.
Senior Dominique Sisk led the way for the Cowgirls (19-4 overall, 7-3 in the MWC) against TCU (15-9 overall, 8-2 in MWC) with a season-high 16 points. She was followed by
Hanna Zavecz
with 11 and Jodi Bolerjack with 10. The rest of the team combined to score just 22 points, however, including only eight from the Cowgirls’ bench.
Wyoming’s struggles from the field were compounded by struggles on the defensive end. TCU shot 27-of-54 (50 percent) from the floor, including a blistering 54.5 percent (6-11) from 3-point range.
“The transition baskets were a big key in the game,” UW head coach Joe Legerski said. “When we missed a shot…they would get an easy basket on the other end.
“TCU played excellent. They came out and were the aggressor.”
The Lady Frogs were led by Adrianne Ross with 21 points in 34 minutes of play. Helen Roden followed with 15 points ad Lorie Butler-Rayford added 12.
The Lady Frogs went on a 9-0 run in the first half to go up 20-11 as Wyoming went four minutes without a basket. TCU extended its lead to double figures later in the period and took a 39-24 advantage into the locker room.
The Lady Frogs eventually pushed the lead to 23 points, 55-32, in the second half, making a late Cowgirl surge too little too late.
Wyoming will be back at home to take on
Air Force
Saturday. Game time is set for 2 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium.
