Arizona State has been recruiting the 6-3 280-pound Nick Kelly for just a couple of weeks now. Needless to say that matters progressed in a very rapid pace since then. This is probably why Kelly still cannot believe his good fortune.
“It’s pretty surreal right now,” Kelly admitted. “It will probably hit me in a couple of days. I loved my trip to Arizona State so it was an easy decision. I didn’t know if I was going to get an offer on the visit, and after I did I knew I was going to commit when I got home back from the visit. I talked it over with my family and I called up the coaches and told them I’m committing. They were very excited to have me come in and be ready to make an impact.
“The facilities really impressed me on the visit and I had a good time hanging out with the players there. They were great guys. I was hosted by Evan Finkenberg and he told me that the strength coach will get me where I needed to be and help me play at this level and that the whole coaching staff here was great. They were really going to work on my technique and help me be a better all around player.”
Kelly indicated that the the Sun Devil coaching staff is recruiting him at center, and that he liked the line’s zone blocking schemes and felt that overall it was an aggressive and physical offense which runs the ball very well.
“The Arizona State coaches like my leadership and my athleticism,” Kelly described. “They also like how I can call the protection and call the keys. They feel that I can really help the team.”
The lineman, who was a qualifier out of high school is eligible to play in 2013. He will sign his scholarship paperwork with ASU on Wednesday, December 19th, and enroll in the school for the spring semester. Kelly was also considering offers from Nevada and Wyoming.
